The terrorist attacks on the United States on
September 11, 2001, were tragic. But the resolve
shown in the aftermath of the attacks, and the
efforts of countless individuals who did whatev-
er they could to help the victims of the attacks,
showcased the best of humanity during some of
the darkest days in world history.
Both the United States and Canada honor
the efforts of those who sought to assist vic-
tims on 9/11 with national days of service. The
September 11 National Day of Service and Re-
membrance is officially recognized in the Unit-
ed States, while Canadians recognize a National
and Provincial Day of Service on 9/11. Residents
of each country are encouraged to honor first
responders during these days of service, and
also encouraged to engage in charitable work
and good deeds. As the world prepares for the
