Summer Heat Is Over — But the Damage to Your Battery May Be Done

By the Battery Pros at Interstate Battery, Pahrump

September may bring the first hints of cooler weather to Pahrump, but after months of triple-digit temperatures, your vehicle’s battery
could be feeling the effects of another long desert summer. Even if your car starts normally today, months of extreme heat may have
already taken a toll.
Desert heat is especially tough on batteries. High temperatures speed up corrosion and cause battery fluid to evaporate faster, gradually
weakening the battery from the inside. By September, a battery has spent months working through some of the hottest conditions of the
year. Cars and trucks aren’t the only ones affected, either. RVs, golf carts, ATVs and other recreational vehicles can experience the same
heat-related wear.
Now is a good time for a quick visual check. Look for corrosion around the terminals, loose connections, swelling or other signs of wear.
Pay attention to how your vehicle starts, too. Slow cranking, dimming lights or electrical problems could mean your battery is beginning
to struggle. If it’s several years old or hasn’t been tested recently, September is a great time to have it checked.
Catching a weak battery early can save you from the inconvenience of a vehicle that suddenly won’t start. With school back in session, fall
activities beginning and cooler-weather road trips around the corner, dependable transportation becomes even more important.

Interstate Batteries is known nationwide for reliability and long-lasting performance. Here in Pahrump, you’ll also receive friendly,
knowledgeable service and straightforward advice you can trust. A quick battery check can help you head into fall knowing your vehicle is
ready for the road ahead.
Before summer becomes a distant memory, make sure it didn’t leave your battery on its last legs. A few minutes today could prevent an
unexpected problem tomorrow.
