Privacy Policy

We're your neighbors, not a data company. This page explains what information the the Over the Hump Saver website collects, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can do about it — written the way we'd explain it across the counter, with the formal detail underneath for anyone who wants it.

Who we are

the Over the Hump Saver is published by Over the Hump Advertising, Pahrump, Nevada — the same shop behind the Over the Hump Saver, the Pahrump Bee, the Pahrump Visitor Guide, The Pulse and the Beatty Outpost. In this policy, “we,” “us” and “our” mean Over the Hump Advertising. This policy covers the website at www.overthehumpsaver.com. It does not cover our printed publications, our social media pages, or any other company’s website that we link to.

What we collect, and why

Information you give us on purpose. You can read this site without telling us anything. You only give us information when you choose to:

• Newsletter signup. Your email address, and the page you signed up from. We use it to send you the OTH Roundup — that is all. Our list runs on Beehiiv, our newsletter service.
• Business listing requests. Business name, contact name, address, phone, email, website, hours, category, description and any logo or photos you send. Most of this is meant to be published — that is the point of a directory. See “What becomes public” below.
• Event submissions. The event details, plus your name and contact information so we can check facts with you.
• Classified ads. Your ad text and your contact details. If you pay online, the payment is handled entirely by our payment processor — we never see, receive or store your card number.
• Contest entries. Your name, email and answer. Used to run the drawing and notify the winner, as set out in the contest rules on this page.
• Advertising and media-kit enquiries. Whatever you type into the form or the email, so we can answer you.

Our forms run on JotForm, which receives and stores submissions on our behalf.

Information collected automatically. Like nearly every website:

• Server logs. Our web host records routine technical information — IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the date and time, and the page you came from. We use these for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful. It tells us things like how many people visited, roughly which region they were in, what device they used and which links they clicked. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not send Google your name, email address, phone number or anything you type into a search or chat box.
• Advertising cookies (the Meta Pixel). We run a Meta (Facebook) Pixel so our Facebook and Instagram promotions can reach people who have shown interest in local news and businesses, and so we can tell whether those promotions worked. The pixel tells Meta that a browser visited a page on our site. Meta may combine that with information it already holds about you. This is the one thing on our site that follows you off it — see “Cookies and your controls” below to turn it off.
• Cookies and similar technologies. Small files that keep the site working and let analytics count a returning browser. Details below.

Cookies and your controls

We use three kinds of cookie and similar storage:

• Essential. Needed for the site to work — remembering that you dismissed something, keeping a form from double-submitting. The site cannot function without these.
• Analytics. Set by Google Analytics to count visits and sessions.
• Advertising. Set by Meta for the pixel described above. This is the only category that can be used to show you advertising elsewhere.

You can switch these off:

• Any browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. This site works fine without them.
• Google Analytics. Google publishes a free opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
• Meta. Your Facebook and Instagram ad settings control what Meta does with off-platform activity. See the “Off-Facebook activity” and ad-preference controls in your account.
• Global Privacy Control. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of any sharing of your information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We also honor browser “Do Not Track” signals the same way.

Artificial intelligence on this site

Howdy Hank is an AI assistant, not a person. Howdy Hank is a character we write in, and the answers you get are generated by an artificial-intelligence model, not typed by a member of staff.

Howdy Hank can be wrong. It draws on our business directory, our events and our own pages, but it can misread a question, miss a recent change, or state something confidently that is out of date or simply incorrect. Treat every answer as a starting point, not as fact. Before you rely on anything — hours, prices, availability, whether a business is still open — check with the business directly. Nothing Howdy Hank says is professional advice of any kind, and it is never medical, legal, financial or real-estate advice.

What happens to what you type. When you ask Howdy Hank a question, your question and the last few messages of that conversation are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, which generates the answer and returns it. The provider processes it under its own commercial terms. We do not use what you type to train any AI model, and we do not sell it or use it to build a profile of you. We keep short-lived technical records for rate-limiting and abuse prevention.

Please don't type sensitive information into Howdy Hank. It is a search box for finding local businesses. Do not enter your Social Security number, financial account numbers, passwords, health information, or anything about another person that they would not want shared. We do not need any of it, and we ask you not to send it.

Search boxes on magazines we host for clients work the same way. Some publications we host for advertisers (for example the Century 21 Americana Magazine) carry their own AI search box. It answers only from the pages of that edition, it can be wrong, and what you type is sent to the same AI provider under the same terms described above — never used to train a model, sold, or used to build a profile of you. Confirm prices, availability and details with the listing agent or office before you act on anything it says.

What we send to analytics. We count how often Howdy Hank is used and roughly how long the questions are, so we know whether it is working. We do not send the text of your question to Google Analytics or to anyone else.

AI in what we publish. We sometimes use AI tools to help with routine editorial work — drafting, summarizing, checking copy, sorting listings, or preparing images. A human being reviews and is responsible for everything we publish. We do not publish AI-generated material as if it were reporting we did not do, and we do not use AI to fabricate quotes, sources, reviews or photographs of real events.

Email and the newsletter

• You have to ask for it. We only add your address to the OTH Roundup if you enter it yourself, or tick a box asking for it. We do not buy email lists and we do not add people who merely contacted us about something else.
• Entering a contest never subscribes you. The newsletter box on a contest entry is optional and unticked by default. Entry does not require a subscription.
• You can leave instantly. Every email carries a working unsubscribe link, and it takes effect immediately. You can also just reply and ask, or email us, and we will take you off.
• Every commercial email carries our real postal address and identifies Over the Hump Advertising as the sender, as U.S. law requires.
• We never sell, rent, trade or share your email address with advertisers or anyone else for their own marketing.
• Service messages are different. If you submit a listing, an event or an ad, we may email you about that specific thing even if you are not a newsletter subscriber. Those are replies to you, not marketing.

How we use information

We use what we collect to: publish the directory, the events calendar and the classifieds; send the newsletter you asked for; answer your questions and process your submissions; run contests; understand which parts of the site are useful; keep the site secure and prevent abuse; bill for advertising; and meet our legal and tax obligations. That is the whole list.

Who else sees it

We share the minimum necessary with the companies that help us run the site. Each handles the information under its own terms and privacy policy. The categories of third parties are:

• Website hosting and email — our web host, which stores the site and its server logs.
• Analytics — Google (Google Analytics 4).
• Advertising — Meta Platforms (the Facebook/Instagram pixel).
• Email newsletter — Beehiiv.
• Forms and submissions — JotForm.
• AI assistant — Anthropic, which processes questions typed into Howdy Hank.
• Payments — our payment processor, which handles card details directly. We never receive your card number.
• Embedded features — our streaming radio player, our digital magazine reader, and the map tiles on our weather page, each of which loads from its own provider and therefore sees your IP address.

Beyond those, we share information only when we are legally required to (a subpoena, court order or lawful request), when we need to in order to investigate fraud, abuse or a threat to someone’s safety, or if the business is ever sold or merged — in which case the information would transfer with it, and this policy would continue to apply until we told you otherwise.

We do not share your personal information with the businesses that advertise with us unless you contacted that business through us and obviously intended us to pass it on.

We do not sell your personal information

We have never sold, rented or traded personal information, and we do not do so now. We are a local publisher, not a data broker.

Nevada residents: Nevada law (NRS 603A.340 and following) gives you the right to tell a website operator not to sell your covered information. Even though we do not sell it, you may submit a verified request to our designated request address, sales@overthehumpsaver.com, with “Nevada opt-out” in the subject line. We will respond within 60 days.

Nevada notice

Nevada law asks us to state the following plainly:

• Categories of covered information we collect: name, postal address, email address, telephone number, business contact details, the content of what you submit to us, and an identifier that permits contacting you — together with the automatically collected technical information described above.
• Categories of third parties we may share it with: the hosting, analytics, email, forms, payment, AI and embedded-media providers listed under “Who else sees it” above.
• How to review or change your information: email us at sales@overthehumpsaver.com and tell us what you would like to see, correct or remove. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, so that we are not handing your information to someone else. We respond within 60 days.
• Third parties collecting information over time and across sites: yes. Google Analytics collects information about your visit, and the Meta Pixel may collect information about your activity across different websites over time for advertising purposes. Both can be switched off using the controls above.
• Effective date of this notice: August 25, 2026.

Your choices and your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you;
• correct anything that is wrong;
• delete it, unless we are required to keep it for tax, legal or fraud-prevention reasons;
• stop sending you email;
• remove or amend a business listing you submitted.

Email sales@overthehumpsaver.com. We may need to verify who you are first. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights — you will not get a worse service or a higher price for asking.

What becomes public

Some of what you send us is meant to be published, and you should assume it will be. A business listing, a classified ad, an event submission or a photo you send for publication may appear on this website, in our printed publications, in the newsletter, and on our social media pages, and may be indexed by search engines. Do not send us anything you would not want printed. If you want something removed later, email sales@overthehumpsaver.com and we will take it down from the website, though we cannot un-print a magazine that has already gone out.

Children

This is a general-audience website about local businesses, events and community news. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email sales@overthehumpsaver.com and we will delete it. Contest entry and paid submissions require you to be 18 or older.

How long we keep things

• Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record afterwards so we do not accidentally add you back.
• Business listings — for as long as the listing is live, plus a reasonable period afterwards.
• Form submissions and enquiries — long enough to deal with the request and keep an ordinary business record of it.
• Advertising and payment records — as long as tax and accounting rules require.
• Server logs — a short rolling window, then they are overwritten.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect what we hold: the site is served over HTTPS, administrative access is password-protected and limited to the people who need it, and we keep our software current. But no website or method of transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send us sensitive personal information by email or through a form.

Other websites we link to

We link out to advertiser websites, our digital magazine issues, our streaming radio, community organizations, government pages and social media. Once you leave our site, that company’s privacy practices apply, not ours. We are not responsible for what other websites do with your information, and a link is not an endorsement.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy. This version takes effect August 25, 2026.

Over the Hump Saver “Find the Hidden Item” — Official Contest Rules

No purchase necessary to enter or win. The Over the Hump Saver is always free to read, in print and online, and a purchase will not improve your chance of winning. Finding the hidden item does not by itself win a prize — it enters you in a random drawing.

• Sponsor: Over the Hump Advertising, publisher of the Over the Hump Saver, Pahrump, Nevada.
• Eligibility: Open to legal residents of Nevada who are 18 or older at the time of entry. Employees of Over the Hump Advertising and their immediate households are not eligible. Void where prohibited.
• Entry period: Each monthly drawing opens when that month’s issue of the Over the Hump Saver is published and closes at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on the 20th of that month. The random drawing is held shortly after entries close.
• How to enter: Find the hidden item somewhere in the issue, then submit its correct page number along with your name and email on the entry form at overthehumpsaver.com. Limit one entry per person per issue.
• Winner selection & odds: One winner is chosen in a random drawing from all entries that submit the correct page number for that issue. Your odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
• Prize: $50 U.S. cash. One prize per monthly drawing. Approximate retail value: $50.
• Winner notification: The winner is notified by email at the address entered, within seven (7) days of the drawing, and must respond within fourteen (14) days to claim the prize. An unclaimed prize may be forfeited and a new winner drawn.
• Newsletter is optional: Entering does not require a newsletter subscription. You may choose to receive the Over the Hump Saver newsletter (the OTH Roundup) when you enter, and you can unsubscribe at any time — see the newsletter and privacy sections above.
• Void where prohibited by law.
